Characteristics of seven types of high-strength steel

1. Dual phase steel (DP steel, DUAL PHASE STEELS)
Performance characteristics: no yield elongation, no room temperature aging, low yield-to-strength ratio, high work hardening index and high bake hardening value.
Typical applications: DP series high-strength steel is currently the preferred steel type for structural parts and is widely used in structural parts, reinforcements and anti-collision parts. For example, car bottom cross members, rails, anti-collision bars, anti-collision bar reinforced structural parts, etc.

2. Complex phase steel (CP steel, COMPLEX PHASE STEELS)
Performance characteristics: fine grains and high tensile strength. Compared with dual-phase steels with the same level of tensile strength, its yield strength is significantly higher. It has good bending performance, high hole expansion performance, high energy absorption capacity and excellent flanging forming performance.
Typical applications: Chassis suspension parts, B-pillars, bumpers, seat rails, etc.

3.Transformation induced plasticity steel (TRIP steel, TRANSFORMATION INDUCED PLASTICITY STEELS) performance characteristics: The structure contains retained austenite and has good formability. During the forming process, retained austenite will gradually transform into hard martensite, which is beneficial to uniform deformation. TRIP steels also feature high impact absorbed energy, high strength plastic product, and high N-values.
Typical applications: parts with relatively complex structures, such as B-pillar reinforcement plates, front longitudinal beams, etc.

4. Martensitic steel (MS steel, MARTENSITIC STEELS)
Performance characteristics: high yield-to-strength ratio, high tensile strength, relatively low elongation, need to pay attention to the tendency of delayed cracking. It has the characteristics of high collision absorption energy, high strength plastic product and high N value.
Typical applications: cold stamping of simple parts and roll forming parts with relatively single cross-sections, such as bumpers, sill reinforcements and anti-collision bars in side doors.

5.Quenching ductile steel (QP steel, QUENCHING AND PARTITIONING STEELS)
Performance characteristics: Using martensite as the matrix phase and utilizing the TRIP effect of retained austenite during the deformation process, it can achieve higher work hardening ability, so it has higher plasticity and formability than the same level of ultra-high-strength steel.
Typical applications: Suitable for automotive safety parts and structural parts with relatively complex shapes, such as A and B pillar reinforcements, etc.

6. Twin-induced plasticity steel (TWIP steel, TWINNING INDUCED PLASTICITY STEELS)
Performance characteristics: TWIP steel is a fully austenitic steel with high C, high MN and high AL components. Extremely high work hardening capabilities are achieved through twin-induced dynamic refinement. TWIP steel has ultra-high strength and ultra-high plasticity, and its strong-plastic area can reach more than 50GPA%.
Typical applications: TWIP steel has very superior formability and ultra-high strength, and is suitable for parts that require high material drawing and bulging properties, such as complex-shaped automotive safety parts and structural parts.

7. Boron steel (PH steel or B steel, PRESS HARDENING/BORON STEELS)
Performance characteristics: ultra-high strength (tensile strength of more than 1500MPA), effectively improves collision performance, lightweight body; complex shape of parts, good formability; high dimensional accuracy.
Typical applications: safety structural parts, such as front and rear bumpers, A-pillars, B-pillars, center tunnels, etc.
